The world you know has a second floor below the basement. Emergents are real. Mind readers, fire-throwers, speedsters, shape shifters, strongmen, and so much worse — every one of them just under the skin of the world you live in, sowing the pain and ruin we write off as misfortune and bad luck. And a man with money and patience is building himself a master race out of them.
He is not the worst of it. Beyond what the living can see, breathing through the walls, is a purgatory hungry for the souls our world shatters. And past that, a hell worthy of the name, looking for the way in. Occult forces as old as time have learned what the Emergents are — and they are closing in.
It's 1986. The world looks ordinary. It isn't. And the people caught in the middle of it all are the only thing worth saving.
