Embracing the Journey

Man, I have no time for this. I have nothing if I don't do this.

I Don't Want To Be A Blogger

Just being honest with you. I haven't written anything out here for a long time because I have been really busy. Editing a book takes mountains of time. It is painful and frustrating, but also incredibly rewarding when suddenly something feels clean and good and... just better.

Most of all, it needs to be done... it isn't optional. So I do it.

I'm also spending lots of time figuring out how to market, how to pick channels, how to present myself, etc. It is tiring. It isn't breaking my spirit, it is just taking a lot of time. I've resolved to do a few things.

  1. Write more blog entries. Not because there is a some big fan base that needs to know what's up. No, rather because the journey of writing... taking ideas in your head and sifting out the good ones and then refining them into something compelling IS the reason for doing this stuff. And I want some degree of history of how it came about. I'll remember it (I hope-- there's so much over time that I probably will forget much of it if I don't write it too), but more importantly, I want others in the future to be able to see how it happened too. So I don't really want to be a blogger, but I am going to be. Because the journey is the destination.

  2. Get better at saying no. There's a lot of people that want to help me now. Most for a fee (I'm looking for people that want to make money WITH me, not off of me). Most tell me I will have a better product if I hire them (probably true). Most tell me I will fail without them or someone with their skills for one reason or another (maybe, we'll see). I don't know without trying, but I do know this... I need as much of my time as I can reclaim for the core process of building creative content. So it is time to stop treating every opportunity like it is the potential one key break I've been waiting for. Say thanks, but I'm not focusing on that at this time. And then get back to the things I'm good at (want to be good at).

  3. Make decisions faster. I could spend a year trying to decide between KDP, Kindle Unlimited, querying agents and all the other things. Fuck it. Pick a path you can live with and shut up already. React to what happens in reality instead of thinking about what might happen in your head.

That's it for this one. Hopefully it won't be the only blog post I create with this "new resolve". We'll see. :)

Till next time (assuming).
