Into the Nothing
Six years old, alone, and somehow unafraid, a little girl walks a gray and endless country where the people shuffle toward a tear in the sky and, one by one, simply cease. She is not like them. While they march toward whatever waits beyond the rift, she stops, and watches, and refuses to go on — but to be different in this land is to be noticed, and something ancient and unsettling has begun to take an interest in the curious little thing who won't walk into the nothing. A surreal, quietly devastating tale from the world of the Emergents.
A Price for Harlan
The mines closed. The town's dying inch by inch. And on a sweltering Tuesday night, the regulars at JoJo's Bar are doing what they always do — drinking, dealing cards, watching the Sox — while an old woman sits patiently across the street, waiting for her moment.
She looks like somebody's grandmother. She is something much older than that, and she has come a very long way to collect what she desires.
A standalone story set in the world of Emergents. No powers, no heroes — just a quiet evening in a small town, and the terrible arithmetic of a woman who decides who gets woven into the pattern and who gets cut loose. Read it before you meet what she becomes..
